It’s a summer of music in Sunderland and combine that with the chance to tuck into all kinds of wonderful cuisine and you’ve got the perfect ingredients for some memorable days – and nights – out.
At Souled Out Festival Sunderland – part of the city’s Soul Food and Music Festival – there’s the opportunity to enjoy some amazing live music, hand picked by no other than Hairy Biker Si King.
Here’s our guide to some of the acts you can enjoy:
Well known across the North East, The King Cush Band was actually the vision of Si King, starting out as a four piece playing covers. Initially playing rock they moved away to funk and soul and now are made up of eight top notch musicians – including one Mr S King who can be found on drums and percussion!
If it’s musical inspiration you’re looking for, then look no further than Voices of Virtue, the region’s top gospel choir. The band has a huge following across the North East and they’ll be bringing their much loved form of singing to Sunderland this June.
For anyone who adores the music of the 70s, 80s and beyond – think Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, The Doobie Brothers, Marvin Gaye and everyone from that era – then Groove Train is an act you don’t want to miss. Regulars on the North East festival circuit, this seven piece funk and soul specialist is known for its ability not only to recreate the classics but get everyone on their feet.
Arguably one of the region’s most popular homegrown bands, Tyneside based Smoove and Turrell are known for their Northern Funk – a mix of funk, soul, northern soul, hip hop and electronica.
Crowd pleasers wherever they play, their part of the festival in great news for both old and new fans.
